In a world faced with many environmental challenges, how can we collaborate using location data, technology and design thinking to: Build Greener, Smarter Communities and Cities?
This will be explored at Geovate 2018, a conference hosted by Geovation, Ordnance Survey’s innovation initiative and London Hub.
We're inviting thought leaders, social entrepreneurs, policy makers and change makers from public, private, academic and third sectors, to think globally, act locally and scale sustainably through the connecting power of location information.
Our world is facing climate change, population growth and limits to resources. Building resilient, sustainable communities and cities means moving to an economy where best use is made of natural and human-made assets and waste is treated as a resource. It also means: Enabling sustainable living; Improving health and wellbeing; Supporting the local economy and Enhancing the natural environment
At Geovate 2018 we have invited keynote speakers and thought-leaders to take a global, city, business and community perspective on how these four themes can be addressed.
In October 2017, Geovation announced a new Challenge, backed by the UK’s innovation agency, Innovate UK and Northumbrian Water Group, offering a slice of £185,000 funding to develop ideas on how location information, design thinking and technology can be used to build greener, smarter communities and cities.
Each Challenge focuses on a new issue, from water scarcity and food security to transport and energy poverty.
The formula used every time: Innovation = problem x solution x execution.
Geovation deeply researched and published problems which, with innovative ideas and adequate resources invested into them, could help make our communities greener and smarter.
This Challenge received over 40 entries - from mapping our plastic pollution crisis to creating a digital high street to boost local economies. Each idea will be developed with an expert team at a 3-day camp, culminating in the Geovate 2018 conference.
Our diverse panel of judges will be providing feedback to the entrepreneurs and funding to help them develop, launch and scale their ventures.
